Ingredient Profile

Ingredients 6/10

Arginine AAKG – 3g is a solid dosage with research suggesting 3+ grams to be optimal. Arginine will aid Citrulline in increasing nitric oxide production, muscle pumps and nutrient delivery.

Beta Alanine – 2.8g is a good dosage although I am not sure why Chemical Warefare chose this dosage since 3.2g (most include 3g as a rounded figure) is the research backed dose shown to delay the onset of lactic acid build up which improves muscular performance. Research has shown users are able to get an additional 1-2 reps on average in the 8-15 rep range.

Citrulline Malate – 2.4g is a relatively small dosage, half of the dosage most research suggests at 6g for optimal results. It is the superior 2:1 ratio used which is a positive (additional benefits than standard L-Citrulline). Research has shown increases in nitric oxide & plasma arginine levels whilst reducing fatigue and muscle soreness (up to 40%).

Creatine Monohydrate – 1g isn’t a low dosage with the average gym goer supplementing with 5-10g per day. However creatine has been shown to slightly increase nutrient partitioning which may be the reason for its inclusion but for strength & power benefits 1g is too low.

Taurine – 500mg is also quite a small dose, most other preworkouts include 1g+ however benefits can be noticed up to 2g. Research shows benefits with blood flow, increase anaerobic capacity with no effect on heart rate or blood pressure.

Green Tea Extract (VASO6) – A mild stimulate with various antioxidant and fat burning properties whilst also showing signs of improved blood flow. Also touted as a cancer preventative in higher dosages and great for overall health and wellbeing. Decent dosage at 300mg in line with most other products which include it, this contains the patented VASO6 version ensuring higher quality compared to the low quality (in theory) green tea extract included in JawBreaker.

Caffeine – It increases energy, gym performance, reduces fatigue whilst improving focus. 300mg is a good amount of caffeine, it is on par with most stim containing preworkout which are around 250-300mg, this gives you a nice sustained energy release which is subtle but noticeable without the crash.

Phosphatidylserine – has been shown to improve cognitive function & memory, however this tends to only be in older individuals as their body do not produce as much as it once did when they were younger. 160mg is a decent dose but research suggests 300mg+ for optimal benefits.

Choline Bitartrate – Report to have cognitive and stimulatory benefits as well as liver detox benefits. 120mg is a small dose which may slightly aid general health and cognition although more research is needed to support the performance and cognitive benefits.

L-Theanine – A relaxing agent (without sedative benefits) with mild focus enhancement, often used in preworkouts to work synergistically with caffeine as it takes the “edge” off the caffeine content whilst still giving its performance benefits. 100mg is a low dosage since we see in most preworkouts 200mg+ which is more inline with the research.

Guarana – 100mg is in line with research suggesting stimulatory effects similar to caffeine due t it containing xanthines.

Astragin – AstraGin® is a patented, 100% natural compound that increases absorption of many vital nutrients promoting a healthy gut environment. 50mg is the research suggested dosage showing for example a 58% increase in leucine absorption and 30% increase in MPS which is hugely beneficial if it translates to real world scenarios.

L-Norvaline – 50mg is a relatively small dose in comparison to others such as VasoRush which has 200mg. This is a derivative of the branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) valine that has been noted in research to be a mixed arginase inhibitor. Arginase is the enzyme that degrades arginine which generates nitric oxide and increases blood flow, in theory this inhibition would allow for greater nitric oxide production, yielding stronger and longer-lasting pumps.

Black Pepper Extract – Simply put, this component helps improve nutrient absorption for better overall results. Any time a bodybuilding supplement has this, it’s a great bonus. HOWEVER this is not the patented version Bioperine which ensures high quality but should have very similar effects.

Effectiveness

Effectiveness 6/10

The energy you feel from the 300mg of caffeine is on the money, its definitely noticeable and give you that kick when you need it but doesn’t make you feel wired or jittery which many don’t like. There is zero crash from The Bomb in my experience just sustained energy. The pump benefits of this preworkout were noticable but mild which will be down to lack of research backed dosages. The best part of this preworkout is defintely the energy & focus but lacks a good quality pump and has no real strength related ingredients just minimal pump and focusing more on energy ouput and mental clarity.

VALUE FOR MONEY

Value for Money 6/10

Prices vary based on supplier and country however from the Chemical-Warefare website you will pay £32.99 for a 30 serving tub. This puts The Bomb in the slightly more expensive price bracket, the inclusion of patented ingredients like vaso6 and Astragin will have bumped the price up a little, however the rest are relatively cheap and underdosed so personally I think it is over priced when there are other preworkouts out their at the same price but with a larger total of ingredients, more in line with researched dosages and which give a great pump as well as focus and energy whereas this just seems tailored towards energy & focus only. I gave this 6/10 because it is still the price of what you would pay for a normal energy drink like monster and has far greater benefits so I can’t score it too low.

Taste & Mixability

Taste & Mixability 6/10

You have the choice of 3 flavours here (Atomic Apple, Strawberry & Kiwi & blue blast) all of which quite good in my opinion with atomic apple being my favourite since I like sour flavours. The mixability is decent at first, there is a little bit of sediment but nothing major, this preworkout does have a tendency to clump though if not consumed within a couple months even if it is well within its best before date. If there were a few other flaours and it lasted longer without clumping then it would have scored higher but for me I could not fault the atomic apple taste. Scoop to the mouth was like having a sour apple sweet which was a treat on prep!

OVERALL

OVERALL 8/10

Pros:

  • Energy & Focus: The energy is definitely the best part of this preworkout with its combination of caffeine, guarana & vaso6 for the stimulatory benefits, astragin to improve utilisation of stimulants and Theanine to reduce wired & jittery feeling.
  • Patented Ingredients: Inclusion of patented VASO6 & Astragin is very beneficial for energy and nutrient uptake.
  • Excellent transparency: You won’t find any label trickery with proprietary blends in this supplement.
  • Flavours: Nice, strong flavours and no chemical aftertaste, 3 flavours to satisfy your individual taste buds.

    Cons:

    • Underdosed: Number of ingredients are not dosed in line with reearch i.e. citrulline malate, creatine, taurine etc.
    • Mixability: Tends to clump in the tump if unused within a couple months of purchase even though its within BBE.
    • Price: This is more expensive than your average preworkout with an average cost of £1.10 per scoop. Your average price is 80p-£1 so not largely more expensive.
    • Lack of Pump: Contains 2 main pump ingredients when most preworkouts contain 3+. Of the 2 only AKG is dosed in line with research, citrulline malate is less than half of the researched dosage.
